The Windflower measuring system is installed on the spinner of a wind turbine to measure the undisturbed flow. The system accurately and reliably determines the following flow parameters:

  • Yaw angle of the incoming wind (yaw misalignment)
  • wind speed
  • air temperature
  • Air density
  • tilt angle

The system is equipped with a heater to ensure safe operation in rain and ice.

The installation of the system is very simple and straightforward. The system is attached to the spinner without the need for alignment. Any misalignment is automatically corrected by an intelligent algorithm.

The system transmits the data via a serial protocol or CAN so that the turbine control system can easily capture the measurement data.

The system was successfully validated in wind tunnels and on a test wind turbine, where it demonstrated its added value by determining the yaw misalignment of a wind turbine and the associated energy production loss.
